Security kills notorious suspect, recovers raided cattle

Security forces in Rumbek East County, Lakes State have killed most wanted suspect, identified as Malok in Panawac payam.

Suspected raiders had come to attacked Atiaba Payam, where one was put out of action during crossfire after the security recovered animals that were raided.

“A clash ensued between security forces and armed criminals until one of them was shot and killed, and the rest fled for their lives,” Lakes state police spokesperson, Major Elijah Mabor Makuac said.

Security sources intimated that the raiders were 8 in numbers and 7 survived following the demise of one of their colleagues.

But security forces were not able to identify all the suspects, accept the dead one.

At least 16 herds of cattle raided from Yirol West County by suspects from Rumbek East County, were also on Thursday, recovered at Atiaba Payam.

According to the police spokesperson, the raiders had also abducted 14 years boy from Yirol West County who was looking after the cattle in the bushes.

“Infact what happened, it was Thursday July 2023 when some armed criminals from Rumbek East went and raided 16 herds of cattle from Yirol West County,” the police spokesperson said.

He said after raiders reached a far distance, they released the boy to safety and the boy reported back.

However, according to the police, the boy could not be able to identify the suspects.

“Later, security forces spotted the raiders with cattle in Rumbek East County and recovered the animals, returning them to Yirol West County to the rightful owners,” he said.

The police spokesperson said that the recovered animals were handed over to the owners before the raided made a return attack where the security forces launched a counter-offensive.
