Police in Lakes State is investigating a case of shooting of man who allegedly impregnated a girl and later promised to marry her.

The incident occurred at Alau-agaap cattle camp in Rumbek East County on Wednesday.

The victim, Mr. Thon Marual Kau was reportedly shot and critically wounded by the brother of the girl, is still in critical condition.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the motive behind the man’s shooting was due to his act of impregnating and eloping the perpetrator’s sister.

The police spokesperson in Lakes State, Maj. Elijah Mabor Makuac, told the No. 1 Citizen Daily Newspaper that the suspect has been identified as Mr. Thon Marual Kau, a brother to the girl.

“According to the information we received, the victim engaged a girl, and he was making arrangements to conduct an official marriage. But he was shot on the way while traveling to collect his cattle for marriage by his brother-in-law,” the police spokesperson said.

The suspect is at large, and security forces are still pursuing him for investigation.

The girl was impregnated and eloped, but the issue was discussed and settled, and the man agreed to marry her.

The man was shot on the way to another cattle camp to mobilize and collect dowries for his marriage to the same girl.
