Armed assailants on Saturday afternoon abducted three people in Duk County of Jonglei State, authorities said.
Duk county information director, Sebit Pinymol said the victims were walking from Poktap, the county headquarters to a nearby village when they were waylaid at Wernyol.
“There were four women moving from Poktap to Panyagoor towns. One of them is a lactating mother. At Wernyol, they were attacked and abducted but one escape,” he said.
The official condemned the attack which he blamed on suspected cattle raiders.
“Efforts by our youth to recover the people were futile. So, we appeal for return of these abductees,” Pinymol said.
In the Jonglei area, cattle raids and abduction are commonplace, with perpetrators often going unpunished.
Last week, several people were also abducted in road attacks in parts of the state.
