By Manas James

The president of South Sudan National Students’ Union (SSNSU) Khamis Othow Omot, is receiving treatment at a hospital in the capital, Juba, for injuries sustained in a gruesome road accident on Sunday evening.

Mr. Khamis met his fate while crossing a road after disembarking a vehicle at Juba’s Gudele-I. He sustained injuries on his head and limbs.

In an interview with No. 1 Citizen Daily Newspaper yesterday, Mr. Khamis Othow said he was responding well to the treatment.

“I had just returned from an occasion at 7 pm when a Boda-Boda knocked me down while trying to cross a road after disembarking from the vehicle I was traveling in,” he narrated.

“I was unconscious and only regained consciousness the following day at Promise Hospital where I am being treated for head injuries,” he added.

He added, “Thankfully, the X-ray results show that there is no fracture but only that I lost about four teeth and doctors say that I may need face surgery. I am assuring my fellow students in particular and the South Sudanese in general that all is well and God willing I will resume my duties soon.”

Meanwhile, the union’s spokesperson, Akech Majak assured that the students’ leader was responding well to treatment.

“The president of the Students’ Union was on his way home after attending graduation ceremonies for Greater Equatoria and Greater Fashoda students when he was knocked while trying to cross a road. This incident was not a targeted one. And as we speak, he is being treated and his condition is stable,” he said.
