Local authorities in Wangkay Payam, Unity State, have arrested two armed youths suspected of attacking the Payam Administration.

The suspects, who have a history of revenge killings, were arrested on Monday afternoon following gunfire exchanges with police officers.

Mayom County Commissioner John Bol Mayak confirmed the arrest, stating that the authorities have taken action against the armed men who committed a crime against the Payam Administration.

“An investigation is underway to shed light on the motives behind the attack,” he said.

During the gunfire exchange, one person was injured. The wounded person is one of those who attacked the Payam Administration and is currently receiving medical attention at the Wangkay Payam health facility.

Commissioner Mayak highlighted the baffling nature of the incident, stating that there have been disputes between the groups who attacked the police station at Payam.

He directed security personnel to arrest all 15 members of the group that committed crimes against the community in Mayom, especially Wangkay Payam.

Once investigations are completed, the suspect will be sent to Mayom headquarters for official criminal charges, he said.

Doctor Riak Koang, a civil society member in Unity State urged them to deploy unified police to hotspot areas, including Mayom County in Unity State.
