Police arrests murder suspect

By Hou Akot Hou

Police in Barmayen Payam, Aweil Centre County, Northern Bahr El Ghazal State, are holding a 26-year-old man accused of killing a man after dispute over a debt payment.

Barmayen Payam police inspector, Pasquale Dimo said that the suspect, identified as Chier Wol Unguec, a mechanic, had a disagreement with deceased, 28-year-old Chan Akuar.

“It is something very unfortunate. People do take the law into their hands, and it is something uncalled for,” said the police inspector.

The suspect had repaired a motorbike of the victim, whom he hit in the neck after the man failed to pay the money for the bike repair.

“If you demand someone’s money or any possessions, just go to the police and open the case instead of resorting to a fight,” Dimo advised.

The contentious amount was SSP 1,000, which the deceased didn’t pay.

He said, “The victim was hit in the neck, which made him bleed seriously, and was rushed to the clinic until he passed on.”

Mr. Dimo said that the suspect will be arraigned in court to answer the charges over the death.

“The young man is taken to Aweil as we immediately informed the police authorities in the state after the incident occurred. We got the motorcycle and took the suspect to Aweil custody,” Dimo stated.

Cases of deaths brought about by scuffles and other criminal matters are on the rise in northern Bahr El Gazal state.
