Commissioner calls for support in addressing insecurity

Aweil East County commissioner, Northern Bahr El Ghazal State, Kharbino Thiep Tong appeals for support in reporting security matters to authorities.

Commissioner Thiep made the appeal while addressing mourners at the funeral of late Dut Atak Mel.

Late Thiep passed away recently, and Aweil East County Commissioner Kharbino Thiep Tong joined mourners at Madhol Payam on Tuesday.

The commissioner said that he has been struggling to tackle security matters at the helm of his regime.

Mr. Thiep said that reports of insecurity, especially on killings and other crimes such as thefts, have been on the rise since he came to power.

“I have seen that the issues of killing have been occurring a lot, and it is your role as a resident of this town and the county at large to support us in reporting the insecurity matters,” he urged.

Commissioner Thiep said that a man was killed with a knife last week in Akuem market at Yargot Payam, Aweil East, by a suspect whom he disagreed with over a simple issue, and he was tipped off (informed) on the spot about the incident.

He said such matters are happening a lot in the county, and they are causing the residents to be too fearful and afraid.

He warned that the situation might trigger revenge killings in the county, which are similar to what happens in other parts of the country.

Mr. Thiep said it is the role of the county residents to support the authorities in letting the government know the culprits and putting them behind bars to avoid communal fighting.

The commissioner told the mourners that he would arrange for a tour of the Payams to listen to the problems they are facing and ways to address them with the state authorities.
