Central Equatoria governor directs the state land commission to investigate cases of land grabbing and hold perpetrators accountable.

Governor, Emmanuel Adil Anthony voiced the directives at swearing-in of a new deputy chairperson of the state land commission, Kenyi Eresto Michael, on Friday.

The governor said the commission must sensitize the public on land acquisition, as a remedy to persistent wrangles in the state.

He warned the commission against compromising perpetrators of land crimes.

“To address land grabbing in Juba City and its suburbs, we have to plan on this available land by intensifying efforts to massively raise awareness among our civil population on land acquisition,” said Adil.

The governor also directed the commission members to continue working with the State Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Public Utilities to form land act to be tabled before the parliament.

According to the governor, land act would fulfill the state strategy on handling land crisis.

The new deputy chairperson of the state land commission, Kenyi Erasto Michael pledged to join the team in formulating policies to address conflicts.

“I shall work in the interest of our people and make sure we succeed in addressing land-related issues,” he stated.

Kenyi promised to investigate any historical land cases in the state and promised to resolve them accordingly.

The oath-taking ceremony was administered by the President of the Juba High Court, Judge Duot Kulung, in the State Government Secretariat General.
