By Yien Gattour

A five-day measles and polio vaccination campaign targeting children between the age of 5-15 has begun in Rubkona County of Unity State.

This began after cases of measles increased in Bentiu IDP camp and Rubkona town.

Unity State has registered 1,200 cases and over 73 deaths due to measles since June.

The campaign is being conducted by the World Health Organization (W.H.O) and MSF Holland, which have completed a second measles and polio vaccination in the area.

It targets 109,362 children for measles and 114,222 children for polio vaccination in greater Rubkona County.

Rubkona County has one of the highest prevalence rates of measles following the June outbreak.

The campaign is expected to be conducted in neighboring areas such as Bentiu Internally Displaced Persons camp and Rotriah camp for returnees.

County Health Director, Jal Kuol Malow, said the partners have learned that children under 5 months to 15 years need to be vaccinated from measles outbreaks and polio.
