Governor fulfills SSP 10 million pledge

By Hou Akot Hou

Governor of Northern Bahr El Ghazal State, Tong Aken Ngor, has fulfilled his 10 million South Sudanese pound pledge to build Aweil East football pitch.

He handed over the money on Tuesday, as he promised during the laying of the foundation stone at Mabil Playground in Aweil East County in August.

A member of the youth fundraising team for the construction of the pitch, Mr. Bulis Bol Chan, who acts as Deputy Chairperson for the fund’s mobilization committee, told this outlet on Wednesday that they were so happy to receive the support from the governor.

“The Sports Ministry and the Committee doing the collection are happy to have received the money in order to enable the construction of the football pitch to begin,” he said.

“We wish to hand over the pitch, which we are building, before the end of the year. So that the activities of the sports and other cultural activities be played on the pitch,” he continued.

Mr. Bol Chan disclosed that another 15 million SSP have already been collected or fundraised from the youth, traders, and well-wishers in Aweil East County, apart from the latest governor’s contribution.

The pitch is about 115 by 220 meters and is going to be built on a strong foundation as the Freedom Square of the county for football and other social activities.

The committee tasked with collecting the funds estimates that the pitch needs more than 63 million SSP to finish.
