A suspected serial killer who has been on the run for months has been apprehended.

The alleged murderer was nabbed on Sunday morning in highland areas in Marial-Diing Village of Madhol Payam in Aweil East County of Northern Bahr El Gazal State.

The suspect, identified as Lual Wol Majook, has been reportedly causing fear and anxiety in the villages around Madhol Payam, where he hails from and is purported to have killed an old man last month.

The search for him (the accused killer) has been ongoing for months, with rumors circulating in the villages that he loots food at night, which has caused mayhem and fear in the neighborhoods around Madhol.

On Sunday, an informant, Mr. Mel Tong Giitjook, first located the suspect at large in a drinking joint, then tipped the police, leading to his arrest.

The police and the other strong young men rushed to the scene and apprehended him, handcuffed him, and then took him to Wanyjok, Aweil East County.

“I got him cracking jokes with men, and I was just on my own mission. I went and alerted the police but only got one officer, so he asked me to amass some men whom I managed to bring together, and we besieged the tukul and caught him. That is how he got apprehended,” narrated Mr. Mel Tong, the informant.

Residents in Madhol Payam in Aweil East County were elated to hear that the suspect, who has been in the bushes, including the farms, eating cane and looting on spree, has been arrested.

Meanwhile, another young man identified as Wol Akoon was also collected by the CID following the suspect’s arrest, and people speculate that he might have been the one who concocted the story for other people who conspired with him.

Last month, the police spokesperson in Aweil, Captain Guot Guot Akol, told residents across the state to help them identify the criminal gangs that are causing insecurity in the state.
