Police in Lakes State said a prison officer committed suicide by hanging himself in Yirol West County in the wee hours of Tuesday.
Lakes State Police spokesperson, Maj. Elijah Mabor Makuac confirmed the tragic incident to the No. 1 Citizen Daily Newspaper.
He said the victim was identified as Lieutenant Colonel Malith Makeny, who committed suicide at around 1:30 a.m. at a place called Dallou near Mapuordit in Yirol West County.
“The man committed suicide by hanging himself with a rope to death, and according to the report, there was an alleged dispute between him (the deceased) and his younger brother,” said Maj. Mabor.
According to the preliminary police findings, the deceased disagreed with his younger brother over a plot of land.
The late Malith report got frustrated when the plot he had invested in was handed over to his younger brother, which presumably prompted him to end his life.
The state police spokesperson, however, said they are still conducting further investigation to establish the reason behind the suicide.
Maj. Mabor noted that the body was taken to the hospital for a postmortem, and after the postmortem, the investigation will continue within the family at the crime scene.
