A young girl was found dead hanging in a tree in Rum-Aguer Abiem village, Northern Bahr El Gazal State, after going missing on Monday.

The police director in Aweil East County, Mr. Pinydiing Makuac Kuol, said the disappearance of the 16-year-old girl identified as Nyirou Akot Akot was first reported to them on Tuesday.

Mr. Makuach said they were notified about the matter instantly as the parents of the girls reported the case to the police headquarters at Wanyjok.

He said that after being informed about the lost girl, he instructed the police detectives to launch investigations and search in the village where the girl hails from.

Makuach said that after the police detectives reached the village, they were surprised to instantly learn that the girl was found hanging from a tree in the nearby bush.

“When my officers reached the area to go and begin the search and investigate the parents and the residents in the neighborhood about how the disappearance occurred, they started going around and got the girl hanging in a tree while decomposing, as it took three days,” said Makuach.

According to him, the reports they have gathered from the parents revealed that the deceased had a quarrel with her parents on one of the days as she returned home at dawn, which led to a row that angered the girl.

The county police director said such scenarios of people taking their own lives are more precedent, adding it is a fourth case right now.
