By Charles K Mark

South Sudan’s U15 boys football team, the Bright Stars on Friday thrashed their group opponent Djibouti team with a basketful of 12 -0 goals in their last group stage match of the ongoing CECAFA Championship tournament in Uganda.

Uganda’s Rhino had already booked a second victory in the Tournament by walloping the South Sudan Bright Stars U15 team beating them 3 to nil on Tuesday.

The game-changer and matchmaker on South Sudan’s side happened to be none other than the team’s Captain Lazarus Peter.

In the first minute of the game, Lazarus did not wait to net the first goal which opened up and boosted the morale of the young stars.

He went ahead to humiliate their opponents with six more goal penetrations in the 21, 22, 30, 63, 70, and 89th minutes which won him a double hat trick.

Meanwhile, two more goals from the Bright Stars’ side were scored by Anur Loburu while the rest came from Loius Domano, Ajo Lomoro and David Biel.

The youngsters took up their first win with passion following a 1-1 draw with Ethiopia’s Walia in their first match opener of the tournament.

Djibouti’s U-15 team first suffered a 15-0 defeat in their group opening game against Uganda.

South Sudan will now have to wait for Uganda’s Match against Ethiopia to determine their chances of progressing to the next stage.

This will mean the Bright Stars will be knocked out if Ethiopia wins their match against the Rhinos of Uganda.

But for South Sudan to book a space in the next stage, Uganda must win with a minimum of 3-0 goals or above.

The Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) registered nine (9) teams’ participation in this Championship.

The last CECAFA U-15 Boys Championship was held in Asmara, Eritrea in 2019 where Uganda defeated Kenya in the final to lift the trophy.
