We must embrace change- former IGP

By Mamer Abraham

Former Inspector General of Police has expressed appreciation President Salva Kiir Mayardit for granting him the chance to serve the office for five years.

Gen. Majak Akec Malok said in a statement that in a changing World, change must be embraced whenever it knocks on the door.

“As the former Inspector General, it is imperative to say that we are living in a changing society, and as such, we must therefore embrace change once it has effect,” he stated.

He encourages citizens to support the newly appointed Inspector General and wishes him success in his tenure.

“In a related strand also, my appreciation goes to the South Sudanese citizens who have stood with me in information sharing,” he said.

“I equally understand that information is power; for that reason, I beseech you to accord the same cooperation you gave me during my five-year tenure to the newly appointed police chief. I wish the incoming police chief the best in his new assignment,” Malok said.

Gen. Majak was relieved of his duties in a Tuesday evening decree read on the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC).

The president issued a separate republican decree for the promotion of the former Director-General of Civil Registry, Nationality, Passports, and Immigration, Lt. Gen. Atem Marol Biar, to the rank of General and the subsequent decree for his appointment as the Inspector General of the Police.

However, the motive behind these developments remains scanty, as the president did not give the reasons for his decision.
