Makeny hands President Kiir Nilepet’s strides

Nile Petroleum Corporation (Nilepet), managing director has handed to President Salva Kiir, a record of transforming the stature of the oil corporation.

Eng. Bernard Amour Makeny on Thursday, 4th January 2024, meeting, briefed President Kiir on the conditions of the oil sector.

“I also highlighted to him the challenges that are facing the oil industry in terms of the conflict in Sudan,” Makeny told the press after the meeting.

The head-of-state and Nilepet’s boss also discussed efforts to boost production and the challenges hindering anticipated goals.

Makeny said he briefed the president on three aspects, number one is the current oil production in the three blocks.

“And how Nilepet and the partners are working very closely to ensure that there is a smooth operation on the oil production” he added.

Nilepet boss recounted informing Kiir of the strides the national oil and gas company has taken.

“I brief his excellency on the activities that have been carried out by Nilepet to ensure that we position ourselves in a very competitive age in terms of the direction in the oil industry,” Makeny noted

Other areas of the briefing included a performance and transformation agenda to make Nilepet at par with peers in the region and aboard.

“I also briefed his excellency on the performance of Nilepet, the transformation agenda, and how the progress has been made to stabilize Nilepet” he concluded.

On December 2023, the minister of presidential affairs, Joseph Bakosoro, also the chairman of the Nilepet board of directors, urged the oil firm staff to eliminate laziness and ignorance to propel the growth of the company.

“Nilepet must grow, and it cannot grow with lazy and ignorant people, it can grow with people with interests to move the Country forward,” said Bakosoro.

Bakosoro made this remark on Saturday during the Christmas – End of year party, a farewell of the former Nilepet Chair of Board of Directors, Dr. Barnaba Marial and his welcoming as the new boss of the national oil firm.

He urged the staff of the Nile Petroleum Corporation Limited (Nilepet)- a national oil and gas company to work hard together as a team.

According to Bakosoro Nilepet should become the breadbasket for the Republic of South Sudan.
