SPLM candidates must face primaries-Lam

By Charles K Mark

Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) party Secretary has instructed cadres to lobby for nominations from their constituencies.

General Peter Lam Both warns that no appointments will be made to individuals for specific positions without primary elections.

Speaking during an event organized by the party to mark the new year, Lam said the SPLM will transition from revolutionary hierarchies to party systems.

He noted that the party will eliminate the need for silver plate candidacy in political positions.

“It is time you go back and talk to your people, if they nominate you to represent them as the SPLM flag bearer then we will support you from there,” Lam said.

The S.G. revealed that SPLM will start congresses right from the grassroots followed by primaries through which the party will assess strengths and weaknesses.

“This is the time we know whether we have support or not. We took you to your continuances to talk to your own people. But if you have not gone back on your own since then do not blame us if you are not nominated by your people,” He stressed.

Before the primaries, Lam said the SPLM must conduct an endorsement of their presidential candidate (Salva Kiir Mayardit) in the Central Equatoria State and in the Upper Nile region.

The S.G. affirms that it is through these two regional endorsements that the international community will prove that the ruling party is supported and will win elections.

Only eleven months remain for the country to hold its first general elections.
