For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. Proverbs 23:7
The mind is one of the greatest tools God has entrusted man with for his triumph in the affairs of life and for him to make a lasting mark for the generations to come.
In the above opening scripture, we are told that as we think, so are we. In the kingdom where Christ Jesus brought us, we are defined by how we think despite being new creatures. We are to think in line with God’s thoughts. Why? It’s because our thoughts set a central stage in our lives so much; they determine how our lives will turn out in the end, either negatively or positively. It’s all up to us to determine our future.
Christ Jesus has set an example of how we ought to think as new creatures. Let us look at the book of Philippians, chapter 2:5.
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God. But he made himself of no reputation, took upon himself the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men.
In this passage of scripture, we learn amazing principles on how Jesus, our Master, expects us to think daily as new creatures in him.
First, we must embrace the mind of meekness because Jesus has set that example before us. He thought it was not robbery to be equal with God, but he made himself of no reputation, took upon himself the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men.
Jesus, the only son of God, had a mind of meekness; no wonder that is why he made a difference in humanity. He didn’t forget his assignment; he knew he was equal to his father, but he also knew that he was sent as a lamb to come and die for mankind. This is what brings us to the second point.
Secondly, Jesus has a mind free from selfishness; for example, if I had thought, we think I meant to think selfishly as we do daily. He knew it was his assignment to die, and he couldn’t do it unless he thought of the glory that he saw ahead—that man would be redeemed again. In our world, we live in a world where the devil, who is the God of this world, has fashioned everything in the realm of selfishness. Everywhere you go, you seem not to care anymore about one another. It seems we don’t need each other anymore, except if you want something from somebody; that’s when you now want to relate to someone. No wonder; that’s why the Bible says the love of many shall wax cold. There is one thing I love about the Bible: whatever prophecy it has prophesied through the prophets in the Bible, they are all coming to pass, which means the Bible is being proven as the only infallible and reliable book that can be used as a GPS to navigate your life successfully.
Jesus thought of others’ advantage before he thought of himself. A Man of Wisdom once said selfishness is the root of all evil, which I found to be true, and I found this to be so true.
Thirdly, Jesus knew who he was; he didn’t allow self-doubt to take control of him. He knew he was equal with God, made of the same image and likeness. When Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, they were deceived by the enemy, who is the devil, the dire foe of our souls.
And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die, for God knoweth that in the day ye shall eat this, then your eyes shall be open, as gods know good and evil. Gen 3:4-5
Imagine the devil being deceived, and this is the only mistake Eve made. She doubted who she was; they were already created in the likeness and the exact image of God; they were already gods. Let’s see in the book of Psalms, chapters 8:4–5.
What is man that thou art mindful of him and son of man that thou visits him; for thou has made him little lower than the angels and has crowned him with glory and honor; thou has made him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou has put all things under his feet.
Praise the Lord, what privilege a vailed unto us before the foundation of the world that David wonders and asks these amazing questions, what is the man that you mind him? Here, you need to know that God is always thinking about you. God visits you always to see that triumph over the circumstances of life we have given dominion, which Satan stole from Adam and Eve when he lured them to sin against their God. You must know that any time the devil tempts you to sin, he is stealing something from you. It is his nature to steal, kill, and destroy you.
Let your mind be guarded against the deceptions of the enemy because the devil knows that the day you are free from his deceptions, he will not rule over the affairs of your life. That is why we are told not to give place to the devil. The devil takes captive those whose minds are set on the fleshly things of this world instead of the heavenly things, where dwell life and everlasting peace.
Use your mind appropriately by using the word of God to sift the thoughts of the devil to take your world in honor of our Lord Jesus.
Prayer of salvation
Say, Lord Jesus, thank you for paying a price for my salvation; today I acknowledge you as the Lord of my life. For with the heart, man believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation. I am born again in Jesus’ mighty name, Amen!
