Aweil residents urged to donate blood

By Hou Akot Hou

Aweil Civil Hospital’s doctors are requesting blood donations as the blood bank is running low.

The blood bank focal person, Lual Aleu Jok, urged the public to assist in providing blood to patients diagnosed with anemia or lack of blood.

Aleu said it is high time for the residents to turn up and give blood as the only way to save the lives of the suffering population.

“I am appealing to the general public so that they turn up in huge numbers and give blood. Last year we got constrained by lack of blood and we made a call” He said

Jok said people need to save lives by donating blood if tests are made before giving blood as is the only way to remedy the situation of impoverished patients.

He dismissed the stereotype of some people that once someone gives blood, he would become weak and die at any point.

One of the caregivers, Adut Garang whose relative has been suffering and needs blood said she hopes the call by the medics to give blood would be received with good heart by the residents of the state.

“I hope our people would heed the advice of the medics so that they give blood as my relative is in the ward and need blood. I had to ask others in the village to come and give blood as mine is B+” she narrated.

It remains to be seen whether the call by the medics will be heeded to.
