NBG Agriculture minister sacked

By Hou Akot Hou

Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Hon. Anei Deng Akok, has been fired in a gubernatorial decree.

The governor, Tong Aken Ngor, then appointed Hon. Awaya Awaya Makuei as his replacement.

The successor, Awaya, and his predecessor, Anei Deng Akok, are both members of the Sudan People Liberation Movement-in-Opposition (SPLM-IO), headed by Dr. Riek Machar Teny.

The duo are staunch members of the party based in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State.

The order also relieved the chairperson of the State Relief and Rehabilitation Commission, Mr. Dut Majokdit, and axed him with Mr. Lual Awach Mangarit.

One of the sources in the ministry of agriculture who preferred anonymity alleged that the outgoing ministry has been messing up with the assets and finances of the ministry.

He stated that they protested last year as their payments were cut on the ground that they attended the SPLM retreat in Wau without the consent or approval of the minister.

The source also intimated that assets such as tractors have gone missing, and it is purported that his kinship with the governor has made the minister do things unaccountably and with no fear.

Awaya and the incoming chairperson of the RRC, Mr. Lual Awach, await to be sworn in by Governor Tong Aken.
