South Sudan Basket Ball Federation Electoral body has released election timetable.
On behalf of SSBF Electoral Committee, the returning officer, Bak Athian Bak read eight procedures that should be observed during the process.
He said that the first is publication of the list of delegates, followed by submission of objections or appeals against the initial list through the Annual General Meeting that started on February 7, 2024, until February 9, 2024.
According to the returning officer, from February 10–12, 2024, the nomination of all candidates who applied for the posts of President, Secretary General, and Secretary of Finance will start.
“Publication of the initial list of the candidates who applied for the posts of president, secretary general, and secretary of finance will be on February 13, 2024,” the returning officer stated.
There will also be submissions of objections and appeals against the initial list of candidates who applied for the posts of President, Secretary General, and Secretary of Finance.
That would be on February 13–15, 2024, followed by the publication of the official list of delegates to the Annual General Meeting, and the candidate for Presidency, Secretary General, and Secretary of Finance will be on February 17, 2024.
From February 17th–18th, 2024, will be the arrival of delegates who will be part of the election.
Election Day will be Monday, February 19, 2024, at the Palm Africa Hotel, with time to be communicated by the committee.
The committee directed that all submissions be done through the Secretary of the South Sudan Basketball Federation Electoral Committee at the Ministry of Youth and Sport.
Bak added that candidates may submit their applications in person, by email, or through a legally authorized person.
“For example, if you will not be able to come in person as an aspiring candidate, you can authorize an agent to come and do it for you, or you can send it through the email that will be shared,” he stressed.
Persons who are aspiring for the positions of president, secretary general, and secretary for finances must prove themselves as South Sudanese nationals by attaching a copy of their nationality card.
He or she must be able to reside in South Sudan and must be literate (know how to read and write), as proved by attaching a copy of their academic credentials.
“Candidates must have at least four years of experience in basketball administration. They have to attach relevant documents regarding their experience as well as the CV,” Bak outlined the qualifications.
The age limit for candidates is at least 25 years old and not older than 70 years old, as they will be nominated by the basketball association and seconded by another.
“So they have to attach the nomination letter and attachment letter printed on the letterhead and stamped by the respective association,” the returning officer said.
Candidates are also required to pay a nonrefundable fee of 4 million SSP for the post of president, 2 million SSP for the post of secretary general, and 1.5 million SSP for the post of secretary for finance.
“So, in adherence to that ministerial order, the federation has already conducted its work, and the elimination of the delegates from the state is already done,” the Electoral Committee announced.
