At least 21 suspects are in police custody in Aweil Town, Northern Bahr El Ghazal state, facing accusations of theft and drug dealing.

State Police Commissioner, Philip Madut Tong confirmed on Friday that the suspects will be produced before court.

“We apprehended these young men through the work of the CIDs as we stated earlier that no one is allowed to sell weed or Bongo as it causes crimes in the state” Madut said.

He stated that these young men, instead of contributing productively to their families, are terrorizing the community.

“Some of the individuals are accused of stealing property, including solar panels. These acts are unacceptable, and legal action has been initiated against them” he continued.

Commissioner Tong emphasized ongoing efforts to improve security within the state, addressing recent abductions, including the kidnapping and subsequent murder of a Wildlife officer last week.

He also highlighted the arrest of an SSPDF soldier suspected of using firearms to intimidate civilians at night.

“It’s crucial for everyone to understand that the law applies equally to all,” declared Tong. “These suspects will face justice in court.”
