Adil calls for increased resource mobilization

Central Equatoria State Governor has directed institutions in charge of the state finances to increase efforts to mobilize funding for development activities.

Emmanuel Adil Anthony issued the directive after signing three bills passed by the State Reconstituted Transitional Legislative Assembly, into law.

In a statement from the governor’s press unit, Adil urged the people of Central Equatoria State and all other stakeholders to support the government to raise resources to facilitate development.

He noted that budget discipline is key while discharging the duties and responsibilities amidst the current economic constraints.

The assented acts are the state fiscal budget for FY 2023–2024, the state tax rate, and the appropriation bill, respectively.

The State Minister of Finance, Planning, and Investment, Viana Kakuli Aggrey, confirmed the total budget to the tune of 33.8 billion South Sudanese pounds.

Last week, the Central Equatoria State Transitional Legislative Assembly passed the 2023–2024 fiscal year supplementary budget worth SSP 11.4 billion despite unpaid six-month salary arrears and allowances owed to lawmakers.

With the approval of the SSP 11,796,385,691 supplementary budget by MPs, this now brings the total state resource envelope for fiscal year 2023–24 to SSP 33,813,674,726.

This was the third budget for FY 2023–24 meant to ‘consolidate peace and security’ and enable the state to deliver services to the citizens.
