University intake commences next week

By William Madouk

Next week, students who have successfully passed their senior four examination certificates will find themselves racing against time to secure a spot in one of the five prestigious universities in the country.

This is after the Ministry of Higher Education announced the commencement of admission into public Universities. The process is set to commence on Monday.

Speaking to the No. 1 Citizen Newspaper, Adil Atansio, Undersecretary in the Ministry of Higher Education, confirmed that the intake would commence in one week across the country.

“I can confirm [the document is authentic], and we are going to dispatch the group to the states—to reach the students in their places plus three administrative areas,” said Atansio.

Mr. Atansio explained that the candidates will fill out forms and take them back to the centres; afterwards, the team will spend almost 5 to 6 months on data entry before finalizing their mandate.

According to the Directorate of Admission in the Ministry of Higher Education, admission will commence on Monday, March 11, and end on March 25, 2024, for both public and private universities.

“The Directorate of Admission is pleased to announce the admission of students to public and private universities of the Republic of South Sudan,” partly reads the statement seen by this outlet.

“Successful students with a certificate of secondary education (2022-2023) or its equivalent are invited to apply in the designated centres from March 11, 2024, to March 25, 2024,” it added.

Based on the Ministry of Higher Education, aspirants must have senior four certificates, birth or age assessment certificates, and nationality certificates (copy and original).

Another requirement includes two passport-size photos and an amount of SSP 6,000 for the admission form and guidebook.

Also, the directorate of admission noted that candidates applying for a bachelor’s degree should have passed seven subjects, while for a diploma, at least five subjects, including English language.

“Applicants are requested to collect admission forms and guidebooks from the admission centers during working days,” they explained.

The centres are: the University of Juba, Upper Nile University, Juba campus; University of Bahr el Ghazal, Wau; University of Rumbek of Science and Technology, Rumbek; and Dr. John Garang Memorial University of Science and Technology, Bor.

Others include the directorate of admission, the ministries complex, and the states’ capitals such as Malakal, Bentiu, Aweil, Kuajok, Torit, and Yambio.

Candidates can apply to any university of their choice in any of the above centers; admission forms duly filled with copies of required documents and photos attached to them are to be submitted to the admission centers mentioned above not later than March 25, 2024.
