Thieves loot Rumbek Market

By Yang Ater Yang

Thieves looted 1.8 million South Sudanese pounds (SSP) and 1,100 US dollars from Rumbek Market, on Monday night,

According to Lakes state police spokesperson, Major Elijah Mabor Makuac, the incident was discovered in the morning.

He said a shop was discovered broken into, and money stolen.

Though security personnel have been alerted, and tracking of the suspects for arrest is going on, the exercise face challenges.

Makuac, explained that while there were patrol teams present, the sheer size of the market made it difficult to provide comprehensive coverage.

“Criminals often take advantage of the situation by closely monitoring the movements of security personnel and identify gaps to commit vices,” he added.

The police spokesperson urges traders in Rumbek Market to collaborate with security forces, emphasizing that security is a collective responsibility.

He urges citizens to report suspicious activities or individuals to the authorities as a safety measure.
