President Kiir makes changes in Jonglei State government

President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Wednesday night issued several decrees, making changes in Jonglei State government, hitting the state cabinet and assembly.

Among those on exit include Elizabeth Nyadak John, who was relieved of her duties as the Minister of Information while Marlin David Kuony Jany, appointed as her successor.

President Kiir’s decrees dismissed Ding Akol Ding, Advisor for Legal Affairs; Atong Kuol Manyang, Minister of Livestock, Fisheries, and Tourism; Nyalela John Chuol, Minister of Parliamentary and Legal Affairs; and Duer Nyon Gatkuoth, Minister of Labor, Public Service, and Human Resource Development.

To fill these positions, the President appointed Athieng Dan Tor as the new Advisor for Legal Affairs; Sarah Lul Lem as the Minister of Livestock, Fisheries, and Tourism; Nyamakal Wal Dhieu as the Minister of Parliamentary and Legal Affairs; and John Beny Kuek as the Minister of Labor, Public Service, and Human Resource Development.

Additionally, changes were made in the state-independent commissions. Michael Mading Akueth, Chairperson of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission; William Ater Manyuon Ater, Member of the HIV/AIDS Commission; and Achol William Garang Dut, Member of the Human Rights Commission were dismissed from their positions.

Their replacements are Jacob Mawut Ajak, Chairperson of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission; John Riang Ayiei, Member of the HIV/AIDS Commission; and Simon Akuien Atem, Member of the Human Rights Commission.

In the Jonglei State Legislative Assembly, President Kiir revoked the appointments of several SPLM legislators and introduced new lawmakers.

Deng Chuol, Matiok Lem, Mary Ayom, Samuol Kuol, Alier Maler, Maker Chol, Kuol Bol Ayom were all removed from parliament.

Meanwhile, Williams Nyuot, Isaac Chol Ayat Lual Thon (replacing the late Philip John Nyok) Matai Gol Deng, Teny Wichar Puok, Simon Thon Ayuen, John Dut, Chany Nei Mohammed, and Mayen Gabriel Anyang were appointed to replace the revoked lawmakers.
