Malualbaai receives ambulance

By Hou Akot Hou

Community of Malualbaai Payam in Aweil East County, Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, on Monday, received an ambulance donated by President Salva Kiir Mayardit.

The community jubilated with relief at the receipt of the car following decades of horrible situations being experienced by pregnant mothers and other patients in emergency situations.

For ages, patients succumbed to deaths due to the lack of an ambulance at Malualbaai Primary Health Care Center to cater for emergency medical referrals.

The PHCC serves the Malualbaai communities, including people from the neighbouring Warrap’s flock to the facility that had no ambulance previously.

Malualbaai Payam Youth Leader, Johnson Madhieu Amiath, revealed that the donation came about after the area’s intellectual, Mr. Abraham Angac Akot, brought the matter to the attention of President Salva Kiir in Juba.

Madhieu said Angac raised the concern about the lack of an ambulance to the President, who in turn tasked Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel, the presidential adviser for special programs, to purchase the vehicle, which he delivered.

Madhieu confirmed that the ambulance was bought in Juba and handed over to Angac Akot, the ex-bodyguard of President Kiir, who also led the community as its commissioner during the 32-state era.

He eventually requested the ex-commissioner of Aweil East County, Theip Tong, to deliver the vehicle.

According to the youth leader, the ambulance was handed over to the PHCC’s administration at Malualbaai early this week in a ceremony attended by the county’s health director, Mr. Angony Ateny.

He underscored that the car will now help the communities in and around Malualbaai when it comes to critical medical emergencies.

However, the ambulance wasn’t the only grave concern facing the community; the lack of gynaecologists is another issue the community appealed for intervention.
