Fatal car crash leaves two dead, eight injured

A fatal car crash left two people dead, and eight others injured on Thursday in Yirol West County, Lakes State, police said.

Lakes State Police Spokesperson, Maj. Elijah Mabor Makuac, confirmed the unfortunate accident occurred on the Juba-Yirol road near Pircok.

The incident involved a Land Cruiser pickup vehicle belonging to the African Resource Corporation (ARC) road construction company traveling from Juba, which overturned around 6:00 AM.

Maj. Mabor stated that the accident resulted in two fatalities: a 29-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, a mother of two children.

Eight others sustained injuries ranging from serious to minor.

According to police preliminary findings, the driver and a young girl are still missing and presumed to have fled the scene.

Police authorities are currently searching for them.

Police suspect speeding as a contributing factor to the accident, as survivors reported that the driver was intoxicated and had consumed alcohol throughout the journey from Juba.

The injured were initially taken to Yirol Hospital and later transferred to Juba for further medical care.

A police spokesperson noted that the vehicle was reportedly headed to Akon in Warrap State before it met its fate in the terrible crash.
