A 20-year-old woman has been found hanging, dead in her room at Warawar town, Aweil East County, Northern Bahr El Ghazal State, earlier this week.

The cause of death of the woman identified as Amiir Garang, remains under investigation, as four suspects are in police custody in what seems to be love triangle saga.

Police investigator, Nyang Kuach the four individuals – including two men and two women are being questioned on the possibility of foul play on Ms. Garang’s death.

“The deceased was reportedly involved in a romantic relationship with one of the male suspects,” Kuach stated.

The body was transported to Aweil Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.

“While we currently lack concrete evidence, the investigation is ongoing, and the family will be informed of the findings upon completion,” the police detective assured.

Doctors at Aweil Civil Hospital, where the autopsy was conducted, reported finding only scars on the deceased neck.

“The post-mortem doesn’t show signs of homicide,” said Dr. Santino Tong. “However, the neck injuries suggest a possible suicide.”

Tong highlighted the concerning rise of young women in South Sudan taking their own lives, often due to romantic issues, including forced or early marriages.

Gender-based violence experts have repeatedly urged communities to combat these harmful practices.
