MP denies involvement in land dispute

By Hou Akot Hou

A national Member of Parliament, Hon. Madut Biar Yel, who hails from Greater Gom-juer constituency in Aweil West County, Northern Bahr El Ghazal State, distanced himself from a land-related dispute in his area.

MP Madut faulted rumormongers for instigating a land dispute that arose recently, following the suspension of two chiefs, including paramount chief Dut Majak Majak.

He described the behind-the-scenes troublemakers as people good at spreading misinformation to instigate chaos instead of being peace ambassadors.

Madut said that as an area MP, he wanted the land in question to be used for a community project, especially the construction of a secondary school in the area, but some instigators embarked on their political agendas instead of doing the needful.

“Why should I destroy my community by instigating violence? Some chiefs didn’t get the motive of the project,” he stated. “My intention was to sit and listen to their views so that we could bring them onboard and make peace with the wrangling parties.”.

Mr. Madut emphasized that he would work with other politicians and intellectuals in order to amicably resolve the tension instead of allowing the spoilers to succeed in their ill motives.

He urged the public to take better steps to understand the issues rather than spoiling the development project that is going on for the community.
