By Kei Emmanuel Duku

Two people have been killed, and another injured in a deadly, Wednesday, May 29th ambush on a vehicle carrying Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) delegates from Eastern Equatoria state.

The attack occurred in Ngarera Lohipor Boma, Homiri Payam, as the delegates were returning from Juba where they had attended the endorsement of President Salva Kiir as the SPLM’s candidate for the December 2024 general elections.

The vehicle was transporting delegates from Budi County to Chukudum when it was targeted by unknown gunmen, according to a statement issued by the state SPLM secretariat.

The deceased included the driver and a female passenger. A young girl also sustained injuries during the assault.

Eastern Equatoria State SPLM Secretariat condemned the attack in a press release, expressing “grave concern” and demanding accountability for the perpetrators.

“We call for the perpetrators to be held accountable and brought to the full force of the law,” the statement read.

Local authorities echoed these sentiments, urging citizens and armed groups to avoid violence.

“We urge all communities and groups practicing this harmful act to restrain themselves and reject violence,” a statement emphasized.

“Unnecessary attacks along our roads are unacceptable and punishable.”

The identity of the attackers remains unknown, with no armed group claiming responsibility for the incident.
