Cabinet approves national youth policy

Council of Ministries has approved the National Youth Development Policy 2024, which aims to create an environment enabling young people to reach their potential.

This came after the minister of Youth and Sport, Dr. Jospeh Geng Akech presented the youth policy before the cabinet chaired by President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Friday.

Addressing the press after the meeting, the deputy minister of Information, Jacob Mijok Korok said the policy is to allow young people to partake in decision-making and nation-building.

“The mission of the policy is to promote a conducive environment for the youth’s empowerment and development, and to foster youth participation in decision-making and nation/al building,” said Korok.

He added that the general aim of the policy is to create an environment for a peaceful and prosperous nation.

“Overall objective of the policy is to contribute towards attainment of peaceful and prosperous South Sudan where the young men and women fully develop their potentiality without discrimination and violence and abuse,” he noted.

Mr. Korok explained that the policy would also help youth to participate in economic, political and spiritual life.

The deputy minister disclosed that after in-depth debate the cabinet passed the policy with some amendments.

“The Council of Ministers After deliberations approved the policy and passed with amendments,” he stressed.
