By Ngor Deng Matem

Governor of Warrap State, Kuol Muor Muor, has formed a fact-finding committee to investigate the killing of journalist Marko Agei Makor.

The journalist was shot dead on July 1, 2020, in a road ambush while travelling to Tonj town, where he worked at the local radio station, Door FM 99.9.

According to the governor’s order seen by this outlet, the committee is tasked with probing the circumstances surrounding Makor’s death, identifying the perpetrators, and recommending appropriate action.

The committee is expected to submit its findings to the governor within 30 days.

The killing of the journalist has been strongly condemned by the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO), which called for a thorough investigation to uncover the motives behind the attack and hold the perpetrators accountable.

This development comes on the heels of another investigation conducted by a committee formed to look into the deaths of seven men who suffocated in a container used as a military detention facility in Kuajok.

The committee’s findings have been released, and it has recommended that the government provide blood compensation of 51 cows to each of the deceased’s families within one month.

The formation of the investigation committee into Makor’s killing underlines the state government’s commitment to addressing the issue and ensuring justice for the slain journalist.
