Electricity kills man in Warrap

By Hou Akot Hou

A 25-year-old man was electrocuted and killed on the spot at Akon payam in Gogrial West County, Warrap State on Thursday.

The victim, identified as Deng Chan, was a trader who sold phones and SIM cards.

He reportedly climbed on the roof of his tukul (traditional hut) to correctly position his charging materials when the tragic incident occurred.

According to Adel Bak Chan Bol, the police inspector of Akon payam, Chan died immediately after an electricity wire struck him.

“The young man went up on the roof to properly connect the charging materials to the electricity wires, and he was struck and died immediately, within 20 minutes,” Bol said. “It is a very sad incident.”

Bol stated that the police had arrested the owner of the generator from which the power was being supplied.

Investigations are ongoing, and the generator owner will be taken to court along with the relatives of the deceased.

The inspector noted that Chan had been running the phone sales business since 2019, and his young family members are now left behind without a breadwinner.

Bol urged the public to exercise caution when dealing with electricity, especially in businesses involving phone charging or other wired electrical setups.

“We have arrested the young man who is the owner of the generator, and the investigations are ongoing until they will be taken to the court with the relatives of the deceased,” he added.
