SSPDF soldiers in Aweil receive food aid

By Hou Akot Hou

Commissioner of Aweil North County in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State has provided much-needed food assistance to South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) stationed at the Sudan border.

On Saturday, the Aweil North County Commissioner, Kiir Chan Wol, visited Brigade 9 in Jorboich, where he met with the brigade commander, Abraham Tut.

The food items donated include flour, sugar, and other essential items from the state authorities to support the soldiers.

“These food items will ease the severity of the conditions that the soldiers are facing,” stated a statement from the office of the commissioner.

“They are struggling to defend the nation at the frontline, and the commissioner thought it wise to make a visit and share notes on the border concerns.”

The handover of the aid was accompanied by colourful dances and patriotic songs, showcasing the appreciation and solidarity of the local community.

Similarly, the Aweil East County Commissioner, Diing Aheer Ngong, made visits to other SSPDF brigades, including Warguet, Yith-Pabol, and Majok-Yithiou, earlier last week.

Local sources suggest that some of these donations may have been provided by individuals with connections to those in power, to rescue the army in these hard-to-reach areas.

There are emerging reports that some SSPDF soldiers have been deserting the army and selling their weapons, as the situation at the frontlines becomes increasingly challenging.
