Soldiers killed among six people in Yirol

By Yang Ater Yang

At least three security personnel and three civilians have been killed and two others injured by suspected armed raiders in Biling Boma, Yirol East County, Lakes State.

The incident occurred on June 19, 2024, at around 4:30 p.m. when a group of armed raiders sneaked into Yinhkar village in Biling Boma, Yirol East County, and stole scores of goats, according to local authorities.

Lakes State Minister of Information, Paul Cabiet Ayang, issued a press statement yesterday about the killings.

He accused armed criminals from neighboring Panyijar County, Unity State, of being behind the attack.

“The information reached our security forces stationed in the area, and both the security forces and young men from the area pursued the armed criminals in an attempt to recover the stolen goats,” Paul stated.

“Unfortunately, they got ambushed; three soldiers and three civilians were killed, two civilians were severely wounded, and goats recovered,” he continued.

Paul echoed that Lakes State government strongly condemned this heinous killing of its citizens and the persistent raiding and attacks by the bandits.

Lakes State government spokesperson called on the government of Unity State to immediately capture those criminals who are at large and bring them to justice.

“We strongly call on the government of Unity State to take control and take serious measures against these continued border raids and attacks perpetuated by the armed criminals from Panyijar County,” Paul echoed.

He emphasized that they are committed to ensuring peaceful neighborliness with the people and government of Unity State and all their borders.

The information minister finally conveyed their sympathy to the grieving families.

“We send our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families of these barbaric criminal attacks, and we appeal to our citizens of Yirol East County to remain calm as we leave no stone unturned to bring these criminals to book.”
