Al-Merriekh FC Juba has announced the release of eight players from its squad in a move to free up space for new signings before the transfer window closes on June 30th at midnight (CAT).
The released players include notable names like former national team defender Hassan James Martin and current national team goalkeeper Ramadan John Mayik.
Club Secretary Kamal Awad Farjalla Yuggu confirmed the decision, which was reached during a board meeting held in mid-June. In a letter addressed to the Secretary Steering Committee of the Juba Local Football Association, the club explained the reasons behind each departure.
National team goalkeeper John’s contract will not be renewed upon its expiration at the end of the month. James, on the other hand, is leaving due to family reasons.
Ahmed Ramdan Ango and Wender John Ernest had their contracts terminated for absenting themselves from club duties for more than six months.
Isah Abdulkadir, who has been inactive for the past year, was also released ahead of the upcoming season. Makila Jean-Pierre Ayembe opted not to extend his contract, citing the high cost of living in Juba.
The departures of Rufino Joseph Uras and Sharafadine Ezadine Bakith were attributed to family reasons and past transfer issues, respectively.
This release aligns with Article 33 of the South Sudan Football Association General Regulation 2012 (amended 2019). The regulation requires clubs to release players nearing contract expiration well in advance of the transfer window closing. The local football association must then display the released players’ names, allowing them to explore opportunities with other clubs.
