No. 1 Citizen Daily Newspaper, born from humble beginnings and now a powerhouse in impactful and bold journalism, on July 14, 2024 celebrated its 5th anniversary.

The publication, which launched online in 2019 and later expanded into print, serves all of South Sudan with provocative news coverage from Juba and across the states and administrative areas.

Kiden Stela Mandela, the Editor-in-Chief of No. 1 Citizen Daily Publication Ltd, urged the current managers and journalists to remain committed in their commitment to truth and accuracy, especially as the nation prepares for upcoming elections.

“As one of the national newspapers in the country, we have faced many challenges, but our courage and dedication as a team have kept us going. We will continue to stick to the truth and work for the development of this nation,” she said.

Morris Dogga, the Managing Editor, expressed optimism about the newspaper’s expansion plans.

He remained hopeful that in the future the newspaper would expand and have offices in all ten states and three administrative areas, which would allow the publication to deepen its grassroots coverage.

Yiep Joseph, a senior reporter from City Review who joined in the celebration, emphasized the need for newspapers in South Sudan to work together and support one another amid the challenges facing the media industry.

“The number of newspapers is limited, which requires commitment and unity among us,” he said.

No. 1 Citizen Daily Newspaper, which faced additional hurdle of COVID-19 pandemic during its launch in 2020, has now become one of the most-circulating newspapers in the country, a testament to resilience and dedication of its team.
