The police in Akoch Payam, Twic County, Warrap State, have apprehended two suspects accused of handcuffing, beating, and imprisoning a minor within their residence in Awut-yiir village.

According to Ngor Agoth, the police inspector, the accused individuals, Aguer Akoon Nyoon and her sibling, are alleged to have committed a crime by physically assaulting Alek Deng and then placing her in a suitcase.

Agoth stated that the accused, Aguer Akoon, strangled Alek Deng, tied her up, and put her in a large suitcase before fleeing the scene.

However, one of the relatives heard the noise and rushed to the location, where they found Alek crying and subsequently freed her from the suitcase.

The police inspector described the incident as “very rare” and said it is currently under investigation.

He revealed that the relatives of Alek had tipped off the police about the matter, leading to the apprehension of the suspects.

Agoth condemned the alleged actions of the accused, stating that the case has been opened against them under the Child Penal Code of 2008, which prohibits corporal punishment on children.

He added that the situation is further complicated by the fact that Alek’s father was killed in a conflict between the Dinka Ngok and Twic communities last year.

The two accused individuals are now in police custody and will be arraigned in court to face justice for the alleged crime against the child.
