South Sudan National Bureau of Standards (SSNBS) mulls extending its offices to Renk of Upper Nile state as well as the Ethiopian border to clamp down on substandard goods.
This came after the boss of the Bureau of Standards, Gloria Nyoka met with the governor of Upper Nile State, Gen. James Odhok in Juba to discuss food safety issues in various sectors in the state.
According to the SSNBS press unit, the discussion involved the critical role of standards in Promoting Sustainable Development, Economic growth, public safety and execution of regulatory frameworks, heightening of quality assurance processes, including the introduction of a quality mark.
During the meeting, the Executive Director of the Bureau of Standards, Nyoka explained the role of the bureau and its importance not only for the Upper Nile State but for the whole country.
“[We] emphasized the necessity of establishing renovating of the office in Malakal and Renk and also expanding SSNBS stations to the Ethiopian border, specifically in Nasir and Pagak, in the future,” partly read the statement.
“We covered topics such as the implementation of regulatory frameworks, enhancement of quality assurance processes, and the introduction of a quality mark of practice across different industries,” Nyoka added.
She commended the governor for his support and openness to the matter related to the safety of the population in Upper Nile state.
Besides, the governor of Upper Nile, Gen. James Odhok, lauded the exerted efforts by the South Sudan National Bureau of Standards in ensuring that South Sudan is free from substandard goods.
“[My] administration is willing to collaborate on addressing these challenges and supporting initiatives to improve standards,” said Odhok.
He accentuated his openness to support the Bureau of Standards, adding that quality safety is a shared responsibility to serve the people of South Sudan.
