NBG governor urged to empower women

By Hou Akot Hou

Chairperson of Women’s Association in Northern Bahr el Ghazal state, Ms. Awan Riiny Lual, has called on the newly appointed governor to work towards reducing restrictions on women’s participation in all structures of governance in the state.

Ms. Lual emphasized that women leaders could have a more positive and impactful influence if allowed to administer the populace at all levels.

“Our people are suffering, and the current leaders are more concerned with looting resources and marrying more wives than addressing the needs of the impoverished population,” she said.

Ms. Lual argued that women should be given a chance to prove their abilities, compassion, and inherent love.

“Our young women are educated, and they have digital skills that surpass even those of the men,” she added.

Ms. Lual criticized the issue of street children in the markets, attributing it to poor upbringing and poverty.

She urged the new governor to work tirelessly to reunite these children with their families or establish reformatory centers for the affected individuals.
