By Yang Ater

Authorities have confirmed that a police officer has committed suicide in Wulu County, Lakes State, following a reported argument with his wife.

According to Major Elijah Mabor Makuach, the Lakes State police spokesperson, the deceased officer was identified as 42-year-old Sergeant Mathew Madool, who took his own life at his residence on Sunday evening.

“On the side of Wulu on date 28, an official working for the police service in Lakes State committed suicide after he had a quarrel with his wife,” Makuach said.

The police spokesperson revealed that the officer’s wife, Corporal Suszan Nyanachiek Ater, who is also a member of the Lakes State Police service, has been taken into custody to facilitate the investigation.

“No one knows what the matter was but we have arrested the wife to allow investigation,” Makuach added.

While the police did not disclose the details of the argument that led to the tragic incident, the spokesperson confirmed that the couple had been engaged in a heated disagreement prior to the officer’s suicide.

This incident is the latest in a series of concerning events in the country.

Last month, a similar incident occurred in Aweil South County, where five people died after consuming a meal, while a comparable case was reported in Aweil West County in June.

The authorities in Lakes State are now conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding Sergeant Madool’s suicide and the role, if any, played by his wife in the tragic incident.
