Sudanese trader killed along Abyei-Twic highway

By Hou Akot Hou

A Sudanese businessman has been shot and killed by unknown bandits on the highway connecting Twic and Abyei Administrative Area in Malual-Aleu.

The incident occurred on Tuesday around 6:00 PM, Wednesday.

According to Joint Operation Major General Kuai Ajak, who is posted in the Malual-Aleu area, the armed men intentionally fired into the commercial vehicle carrying the Sudanese businessman, identified as Ahmed Adam Ali.

“The car was heading to Abyei and was hit with a lot of bullets until Mr. Ahmed passed on. The driver escaped narrowly with his life, though he was severely wounded,” said Major General Ajak.

The driver, severely wounded on the head, managed to flee the scene and run for his life to Abyei town. However, the suspects reportedly escaped with a substantial sum of money after murdering the Sudanese businessman, who was heading to Abyei.

This incident is not the first of its kind in the region. Major General Ajak disclosed that two trucks filled with goods were looted last month in the same Malual-Aleu area, and the suspects have not yet been apprehended.

The prevalence of insecurity along the Abyei-Twic highway is a significant concern. Major General Ajak acknowledged the increased sense of insecurity in the area and stated that they would do everything in their power to enhance the protection of the local population through vigilant efforts.

Furthermore, the commander urged the public to avoid walking alone in the dense vegetation that could serve as hiding zones for the bandits or armed men.

The Twic and Abyei frontiers have been the sites of communal fighting due to unspecified objectives, which has led to the perpetuation of robberies and other criminal activities.
