Christian Agency for Peace and Development (CAPD), in collaboration with the South Sudan Youth Organization Coalition (SSYOC) and supported by Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA), successfully conducted a dialogue on the Youth Enterprise Fund Bill and the Sports Bill.

The event, held from August 1-2, 2024, marked a significant step forward in addressing the needs and aspirations of South Sudan’s youth.

The two-day dialogue brought together key stakeholders, including government officials, youth leaders, and community representatives, to explore and discuss the potential impacts of the Youth Enterprise Fund Bill and the Sports Bill.

These pieces of legislation are designed to create sustainable opportunities for young South Sudanese and to promote their active engagement in both economic and recreational sectors.

“This dialogue is a testament to our commitment to empowering our youth,” said Mr. Tiop Paul, Head of program of CAPD.

“The Youth Enterprise Fund Bill aims to provide young entrepreneurs with the resources and support they need to succeed, while the Sports Bill seeks to foster a culture of health and teamwork through sports.”

Youth Enterprise Fund Bill: This proposed legislation focuses on establishing a fund to support young entrepreneurs through grants, loans, and business training.

The dialogue highlighted how this initiative will reduce financial barriers, enhance entrepreneurial skills, and stimulate economic growth across South Sudan.

“The Youth Enterprise Fund Bill is crucial for unlocking the potential of our young people,” stated James Thon Atem of SSYOC.

“By providing the necessary tools and resources, we are setting the stage for a new era of innovation and economic development.”

Sports Bill: The Sports Bill aims to enhance physical activity, improve sports infrastructure, and encourage youth participation in sports.

The dialogue underscored the role of sports in building discipline, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles.

It further stressed the need for continued support from the Ministry of Youth and Sports and international donors to ensure the successful implementation of these bills.

The financial and logistical backing of partners is crucial for transforming these legislative proposals into real-world benefits for South Sudan’s youth.

“We urge our government and the international partners to join us in this transformative journey,” urged Ms Mary Akol, a youth advocate.

“Your support will help us create lasting change and provide our young people with the opportunities they deserve.”

The discussions held during this event have laid the groundwork for significant progress with formulation of committee to spread head the progress of enacting of the bills and youth development in South Sudan.

The commitment and support of donors are essential in bringing the Youth Enterprise Fund Bill and the Sports Bill to fruition.
