Lakes State police have confirmed the arrest of two men on Tuesday, accused of defiling a 12-year-old girl the previous night. The incident took place in Awerial County during a family gathering.
According to Lakes State Police spokesman Maj. Elijah Mabor Makuac, the young girl was sharing a room with male visitors due to limited sleeping arrangements during her cousin’s wedding ceremony, which led to this tragic event.
The victim has since received Form-8 and is undergoing medical treatment at Mingkaman PHCC.
“This incident should serve as a warning to all parents,” Maj. Makuac stated. “Young girls must always be under the care and protection of adults. They should never be placed in the same room as males, even if they are relatives. Our priority should be the safety of our children.”
Grace Gire Moi, the officer in charge at Mingkaman PHCC, reported that the girl’s condition was critical.
She stated, “She was brought in very early in the morning suffering from excessive bleeding due to cervical and physical tears. We had to refer her to Juba for advanced medical care.”
The police investigation is ongoing as they work to ensure justice for the young victim and prevent similar incidents in the future.
