Maj. Gen. John Baak, the newly appointed Commissioner of Police for Jonglei State, confirmed that the violence erupted between the Pathuyith and Angakuei clans, with each side losing two members.
“When the information reached the police, forces were immediately deployed to the scene. We were able to control the situation,” Baak reported.
The confrontation occurred in a fishing area, but the reasons behind the clash remain unclear.
Gen. Baak called for calm among the conflicting clans as the investigation proceeds.
“We have made four arrests in connection with the clash and continue to seek answers about the underlying reasons for the fighting,” he added.
Gen. Baak said police is working to restore peace and order in the area as they delve deeper into the circumstances that led to the tragic incident.
