SOUTH SUDAN ELECTIONS

The final decision on South Sudan’s elections rest upon the Presidency, the Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Dr. Martin Elia Lomuro told the media, on Thursday.

The minister’s disclosure followed a close-doo meeting of the High-level Implementation Committee for the revitalized peace agreement with the various security institutions.

Dr. Lomuro said that the security agencies presented progresses, challenges and need for budgetary allocation to finish critical tasks necessary to establish national security sector institutions.

According to the minister, the committee will study the report from the security sector, before tendering it to the presidency to make final decision on elections.

“So, we are now in position as the high-level standing committee to go and study what they (security agencies) have presented to us and to be able to analyze them and come up with what is appropriate, what is possible and be able to rise it to the presidency for a final decision about the move of the country towards elections” said Dr. Martin Elia.

The cabinet affairs minister who doubles as the secretary general of the high-level committee emphasized that with this report now they are one step to finish their task.

“We are left with the National Transitional Committee (NTC) to meet and discuss their challenges and requirements, then we will have an overall report that will be extended to the presidency and the parties to the agreement who are going to finalize and move the country forward.

The chairperson of the committee, who is also a presidential security advisor, Hon. Tut Gathluak chaired the Thursday meeting which brought together all the transitional security arrangement mechanisms or agencies including the; joint Military Ceasefire Commission (JMCC) Joint Transitional Security Committee (JTSC), Joint Defense Board (JDB), and the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) commission.
