Yei Agricultural Training Centre upgrades curricula

By Bosco Bush

Crop Training Center (CTC), a major Agriculture Vocational Training Institute in Yei River County has updated and upgraded its curricula to align with regional standards.

Initially, offering a nine-month certified course in agriculture, the training centre has now transitioned to a comprehensive one-year program that provides extensive knowledge and skills mentorship.

The Principal, Mr. David Bala told this outlet that, the new curricula comprise 4 areas of demand and were developed with comparison from the neighbouring countries in the region.

“Our certificate course earlier on was for 9 months, but now we’ve developed a curriculum for one year. Which means, out of the former curricula we’ve identified four areas which the community demands,” he said.

“Number one is Animal Production, the second is Crop Production, the third one is what we call Agri-Business, and the fourth one is Agriculture Extension. These courses are one year, and the curricula are being developed in comparison with the neighboring countries,” Bala said.

He noted that attaining a certificate from CTC would easily enable a student to become a good farmer or pursue further career development in any university within South Sudan or across the borders.

Mr. Bala encourages people to focus on agriculture, adding that agriculture is the largest employment sector globally.

Established in 2004 under the Crop Training Center Act, 2004, CTC is one of the vocational training centres founded by the then-autonomous New Sudan government to promote commercialize agriculture for sustainable development.

CTC is currently under the line Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (Directorate of Education and Training), and Ministry of General Education and Instruction (Directorate of Technical and Vocational Education and Training – TVET).
