Radio Jonglei 95.9 FM silent over technical glitch

Radio Jonglei 95.9 FM, the main broadcasting station for Jonglei state’s capital, Bor, has been off-air due to a technical malfunction in its transmitter.

The outage, which began early this week, has left the local community without one of its main sources of news and entertainment.

Station Manager Chol John Mary Alier confirmed the incident, stating that the transmitter, a crucial piece of equipment for the station’s operations, was damaged.

“The radio has got a technical issue—transmitter has got burned,” Chol told No. 1 citizen. “I have alerted the online community about what happened. Probably on Sunday we might be back on air.”

Radio Jonglei 95.9 FM, which began broadcasting in 2010, has established itself as a cornerstone of community engagement and communication in Bor and its surrounding areas.

Known for its diverse programming, the station offers a mix of music, talk shows, educational content, and live coverage of local events. Its programming is designed to reflect the interests and needs of the local population, making it an integral part of daily life in Jonglei state.
