A man has taken his life in Riang-bar village, Aweil West County, on Thursday following a family disagreement.
Philip Agany, the police inspector at Nyamlel County, reported that the deceased, identified as Deng Noon Tong, was reportedly enraged over his wife’s decision to sell a chicken, which they had raised together.
Agany stated that Deng was found hanging from a tree in an isolated area away from the neighborhood, and neighbors believe the heated argument with his wife led to the devastating outcome.
“The man was discovered hanging after a quarrel with his wife. According to local sources, the dispute arose when she sold a hen worth 15,000 SSP, which Deng opposed,” Agany explained.
The police have since detained the wife of the deceased and plan to bring her before the court to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Suicide cases are alarmingly common in South Sudan, despite ongoing efforts by gender-based violence experts to promote non-violent conflict resolution methods.
